Notes: This card shows a festival called "Rhein in Flammen" or Rhine in Flames.  It's an annual festival in which brightly illuminated ships convoy down the river on five different days to watch fireworks displays.  This particular scene shows St. Goar on the west bank of the Rhine and St. Goarshausen on the east bank.

Notes: I thought this might be a castle, because I have a card from a castle in Finland with very similar arches.  However, this is actually the Wienhausen Abbey near Celle, Germany.  Before the Reformation in 1517, it was a Cistercian Catholic convent.  After the Reformation, it became a Damenstift - a community for unmarried Evangelical Lutheran women.
