Notes: Trier claims to be the oldest city in Germany, having been founded as August Treverorum in about 16 B.C. by Emperor Augustus.  The four photos across the bottom show: A. Porta Nigra, a large Roman city gate.  B. High Cathedral of St. Peter in Trier, the oldest cathedral in the country.  C. The Basilica of Constantine, which was built around 310 A.D.  D.  Ruins of Roman baths.  All four locations are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
