Day One Hundred Forty-One

Norway - Vardøhus Festning

Notes:  The Vardøhus Fortress is located on the island of Vardøya in the Barents Sea off far northeastern Norway.  The first fortification on this site was built in 1306, and this second was erected between 1450 and 1500.  However, it never actually saw enemy action until the 20th century when it was captured by Nazi Germany.

I like that they didn't go with the standard rectangular walls for this fort.

Notes: No, I didn't post the same card twice.  I actually received two different cards with the same image.  You can tell they are different cards because they each have different flaws on them from going through the postal system.

As the cards say, this is the Coconut Palace in Manila, Philippines.  It was commisioned in 1978 by former First Lady Imelda Marcos as a government guest house.  It's an octagonal-shaped palace made of several types of hardwood, coconut shells, and a specially engineered coconut lumber.  In 2011, the palace became the official residence and principal workplace of the Vice President of the Philippines.
