Notes: This is The Bund in Shanghai, China, as it looked in 1936.  Bund means embankment or embanked quay, and in the case of Shanghai, it refers to the area along the western bank of the Huangpu River.  Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Shanghai, and many of the buildings look the same as they do in this photo, including the building in the center with the clock tower.

Notes: According to Angie, this is an old Chinese house.  Clearly at this point, it has been turned into some sort of business, although I'm not sure what.  The caption on the back of the card is less than helpful.  It says "Each window may have housed a sad and beautiful story; each flat roof may have weathered a long forgotten love."  Well, isn't that a cheery thought!
