Minnesota - Mall of America, Bloomington

For: US to US Travelling Envelope Round Robin - Flight 4
Notes: The Mall of America, which opened in 1992, is the largest fully-enclosed retail and entertainment complex in the United States.  The Mall receives over 40 million visitors a year, more than any other mall in the world. In addition to the typical mall stores, restaurants and movie theaters, the Mall of America boasts an indoor theme park and an aquarium.  Apparently there is also a CSI Experience, which is sounds a lot like an exhibit that the Museum of Science and Industry had in 2007, and a Star Trek Exhibition, which means that I might have to take a trip up to Minnesota.

Minnesota - Split Rock Lighthouse

Sent by: postcardsMN
From: Minnesota, USA
For: Private swap
Notes: The Split Rock Lighthouse was first lit in 1910, in response to the Mataafa Storm of 1905, in which 29 ships were damaged or destroyed in Lake Superior.  At the time it was built, there were no roads in the area, so all of the construction materials arrived via water.  It sits on a 130 ft. (40 m.) cliff, and after it was built, it quickly became an attraction for sailors and excusion boats.  The light was retired by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1969, and it is now operated by the Minnesota Historical Society.
