Them Bones

Ethiopia ET-1124 received 06-30-2014

ID number: ET-1124
Notes: Receiving a postcard from anywhere in Africa is a fairly rare event, so that makes this card pretty special.  The sender is originally from San Diego, but works as a teacher at an international school in Addis Ababa.  The card shows AL 288-1, more commonly known as Lucy.  It is a 40% complete skeleton of an Australopithecus afarensis female, who lived about 3.2 million years ago.  She was found in 1974 in the Awash Valley in Ethiopia, and is now preserved in the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
