From Vermont to Virginia

Vermont - Waits River

For: US to US Travelling Envelope Round Robin - Flight 5
Notes: Waits River is one of four villages that make up the town of Topsham, Vermont.  The other three are East Topsham, Topsham Four Corners and West Topsham.  The total population of the town is about  1,140 people.  The Waits River flows through the western part of the town.  According to the back of the card, Waits River is the most picturesque village in Vermont.  Sorry that this is a rather dry statement of facts, but I really couldn't find anything more interesting about it.

Virginia - Chincoteague Island

For: US to US Travelling Envelope Round Robin - Flight 3
Notes: Chincoteague Island is located off the eastern coast of Virginia. It is a resort island, and home to the Chincoteague Wild Ponies.  The ponies are descendents of survivors of a Spanish galleon wreck off the coast.  They run wild and live on salt marsh plants and brush.  There is a Pony Penning festival every July (since 1925) where the ponies are rounded up and made to swim across the channel between Assateague and Chincoteague Islands.  They then run through the main street of Chincoteage and rounded up into pens.  Two days later, they swim back.  As you can see from the card, the island also has many seabirds in addition to the ponies.
