Out in the Ozarks

The Ozarks

For: US to US Travelling Envelope Round Robin - Group 43
Notes: Although the Ozarks are frequently referred to as mountains, the area is actually a dissected plateau (a plateau area that has been severely eroded).  The Ozarks cover the southern half of Missouri, the northern part of Arkansas, northeastern Oklahoma and a small part of southeastern Kansas.  The word Ozarks is believed to be a corruption of the French abbreviation "aux Arcs" (short for "aux Arkansas", or "of Arkansas").  The stream shown on this postcard is not named on the back of the card, and as there are many rivers and streams running through the Ozarks, I can't even hazard a guess as to which one it is.
