Notes: The Tannehill Ironworks were built in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama starting in 1830.  It was a major supplier of iron for Confederate ordnance during the American Civil War.  That made the furnaces, shown here, and the foundry big targets for the Union Army.  On March 31, 1865, three companies of the U.S. 8th Iowa Cavalry burned the buildings to the ground.  The furnace remains, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Tannehill State Park also features the John Wesley Hall Grist Mill, the May Plantation Cotton Gin House, and the Iron and Steel Museum of Alabama.
