Notes: The green church shown here is St. Simeon Stolpnik Cathedral in Brest, Belarus.  It was rebuilt in 1865 after the previous cathedral was destroyed by a fire.  St. Simeon Stolpnik, also know as St. Simeon Stylites the Elder, joined a monastery before he turned 16, but was asked to leave because his fellow monks felt he was unsuited for their community. He shut himself up in a hut for a year and a half, and then retreated to a small ledge on a mountain.  He was forced to leave because many pilgrims sought him out for advice.  He then decided to live on the top of pillar, and he did so for the next 47 years until his death, while boys from the village brought him bread and milk every day..  The first pillar was 9 feet tall, but by the end, he was living on top of a 50 foot tall pillar.

If I didn't know better, I'd say the statue of him on the left was modeled after the knight from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  Right?
